Jailer charged after allegedly receiving sexual favors from inmate

(WHAS11) - A jailer is charged with multiple felonies after allegedly receiving sexual favors from an inmate.
 

The arrest happened Wednesday after an investigation that we have learned has been ongoing for a period of time.
 

James Scott Mikesell was charged with sexual abuse, tampering with physical evidence and official misconduct.

He turned himself in at the jail where he worked Wednesday morning after the Louisville Police Public Integrity Unit obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Mikesell has served as a corrections officer at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections since June of 2007.

Mikesell's arrest warrant alleges that he engaged in oral sex with an inmate on a number of occasions in recent months.

The female inmate, who was in a single cell, allegedly performed the act on Mikesell.

After other inmates in that wing reported the frequent visits to other corrections employees, an investigation was initiated.

During that investigation, Mikesell was allegedly observed engaging in the sex act with the inmate.

According to the warrant, Mikesell also had an inmate work aid provide him with a towel, which he used and allegedly instructed the work aid to dispose of in a dumpster after the alleged act.
